Submission Guidelines

Imaginaire is currently open for submissions. We are an irregular journal devoted to mathematical fiction, poetry, creative nonfiction, graphic storytelling, and the like. We only publish work that incorporates mathematics either thematically or as a subject of focus, but beyond that we are not slaves to notions of genre. A story's success stems from accomplishing what it sets out to in an entertaining way. "Entertaining" can be a subjective measure. At the end of the day, we will publish it if we like it AND it deals with mathematics.

Our aim is to keep a rolling publication of stories that fit our theme. We welcome simultaneous submissions and reprints. We are a non-paying market, and authors publish here at will, meaning Imaginaire claims no copyrights to your work. If you wish a story taken down, simply send us a note and we will remove it.

In addition to standard fiction, we will consider comics, creative nonfiction, novellas, art, and experimental pieces if they are successful. Anything creatively composed will work for us. Send it along.

Formatting: Send in your best work, formatted for easy web reading in a Word or text document (.txt, .doc. ,docx, .rtf, .odt, etc). Avoid PDF, as this just slows down publication. If you do submit PDF, be prepared with the text in one of the standard formats. Try to fix typos before sending it in, though we will read the work and suggest changes or correct errors as necessary.

The Zine: Each piece will be published as it is accepted and approved by editing. For most work, it will be published on the front page, blog style. Some alternate forms of expression may be published as a JPEG or PDF that readers can view or download in their format of choice.

Pay: We have minimal monetary support. If that changes, we would happily offer an honorarium for the temporary use of your work.

Podcasts: Please query first.

Comics: We love comics, and we'd love to see what an inspired comic writer could do with some of the ideas of mathematical fiction.

Instructions: The easiest method would be to upload your document into Dropbox, Google Docs, or similar service and send a link to the head editor at joshuallen.writer@gmail.com. You can also email the piece directly to Josh.
